MENTAL HEALTH
​​​​​Most children, who have been separated from their biological families, even when placed with kin, experience difficulty with emotions, prior trauma and issues that may persist as they age and experience different developmental levels. These issues can occur in the following settings: home, school, community, etc. Please take the time to look at all the options that are on this page to see which options may or may not fit your child's best needs.​​​​​
COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTERS - CMHC
​
Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) are the local coordinating agencies for delivery of public community-based mental health services. Each area in Kansas has what is called a "catchment area" which is represented by a particular CMHC. Even though the main CMHC is in a certain city, there are satellite offices throughout the region to provide assistance locally.

There are many options for finding private mental health care and many are covered by Kancare/Medicaid as well as other insurances. One option I've found helpful is a website found on this link>>>>
Click link and select options such as:
**type of insurance they take
**age of clients they serve
**male/female therapist
**in person or online options
**type of therapy they provide or specialty
**location needed
Then hit the "search" function. It will bring up a list of available
therapists with your specifications and most even provide a free
15 minute consultation so that you can tell if it will be a good fit!
